Referencing from APA to Harvard

My boss ask me to convert the reference from APA style to Harvard referencing because of the publishing requirement. I had a difficulty in doing it in an urgent manner, i search through internet and found this link, that will be useful for us. This website can help you to refine the referencing matter. Publish paper in Journal

My boss ask me to publish paper in journal. She asked me to sent her manuscript for 4 publisher. Even though I think it is unethical to sent the manuscript to more than one publisher, but I still proceed to edit the paper. Because I am not going to use my account to publish it. I just need to edit it for her and make it ready for her.

First thing you need to do before sending your paper is to read the author guideline from the selected journal. Then you have to comply with their requirement, i.e formatting and referencing.

If you are publishing to Elsevier, and english is not your first language then you may need to visit this website for a help.

Research Assistant

My job as a research assistant started 28/sept/2015.

What you need to do as a research assistant :

1. Get a title or a rough background on what you want to search.
2. Go to Google scholar- get the latest research from past 5 years.
3. Summarize in an excell format.
4. The summary must include citation ( follow the format i.e APA style) , methodology, year, abstract, type of research and some other title relevant to your research)
5. Start writing i.e free writing

Second stage
1. Go to more serious journal from publisher i.e SAGE, Emerald, EBSCO etc.
2. Go into the topic in depth.
3. Find one article which is close enough to your research, make it a pilot/anchor article, so that you wont be lost while reading numerous journal. Refer to the bibliography and reference to snowball on what other had wrote.

Sorting the journal

After you have download the journal, you need to keep a list of it. Otherwise it will be difficult to find it.

First you need to to do is to sort it according to year. Please read the recent journal. In example you can start reading the last 5 years journal. Older journal may not be helpful if you want to know more about methodology, as many new software coming out.

Hari ini saya nak kongsikan sedikit tips tentang apa yang perlu kita buat untuk stay updated di dalam bidang penulisan thesis.

Semenjak bulan pertama saya masuk bidang pengajian phd ni, saya dah subsribe to Google scholar. Saya melanggan dengan menngunakan kata kunci (keyword) yang berkaitan dengan bidang penyelidikan saya.

Cara nak melanggan ni, mudah sahaja, and taip google scholar, dan cuba cari artikel yang anda mahu, dan selepas itu ikut langkah yang disediakan di halaman tersebut, Google scholar ni bagus untuk pelajar baru. Adalah penting untuk kita tahu apa yang sudah di tulis di dalam bidang kita. Supaya penyelidikan kita tidak sama seperti yang telah di buat orang lain.

Memangla kita akan rasa semak juga bila google scholar ni sibuk dok hantar update setiap masa bila ada benda baru di dalam bidang kita. But trust me, ianya penting untuk di simpan dan di baca.

Step to excell in your phd

PhD is not about being immerse in your own topic only, you have to master the research skill and statistic too.

I am having a difficulties at this stage.

In the beginning, it started with the literature review, you read and read about 300 journal in related to your topic. Bear in mind that, at this stage are just reading, you don't know what are you reading. As long as the journal have the keyword that you are looking for, you just need to swallow it .

After reading it all, your reread and made a summary in the table format. I use microsoft excell to summarize it.

Publish date
Literature gap
Methodology
Findingd
Conclusion
Location of the study

At the stage two,

You need to know which process you want to get into?
In example, which method is the best to measure your data?

Cara untuk bermula menulis

Biasanya saya akan baca abstract dulu, kemudian baru baca conclusion.

Cari methodology yang orang terdahulu dari kita guna, theory apa yang sesuai, then baru dapat research gap.

Sambil membaca tu kita kena menulis juga kat dalam thesis, takut nanti bila dah habis baca. kita lupa pulak apa yang kita baca..

if ever feel malas nak tulis thesis,

first sekali ialah kena tulis masa kita bermula, cuba buat untuk 30 minit dulu, set kan masa kat handphone. Bila dah siap 30 minit menulis. Kita set masa untuk lagi satu jam. selepas tu boleh la reward diri kita sebab dah berjaya menulis selama satu jam setengah.

This is very true statement for anyone wanted to do a PhD. Your supervisor will let you drown in your though before he come to rescue.Could it be he also don't know at which part you are stuck?

Motivation to write

My spirit is lifted every time I increase the word count in my thesis.

At current I am at 3,000 wording. so many thousand/million words more. keep telling myself to go on, as the journey to completion started with only on though, which evolve in to discussion and leads to first word written towards my thesis.

I learn by reading, writing and teaching. how about you?

cari a journal, read it, make a summary of it.

Then cari if the article has been cited by other, see what are they writing about the article. Mostly the notes will be in literature review.

See if their literature review is the same as what you wrote in your literature review. reread the article and change your perspective this time. re write your literature review.

mencari matlamat hidup

Hari ni akak nak bercerita sedikit tentang matlamat hidup.

Biasanya hari Sabtu saya dedikasikan untuk membuat perancangan untuk minggu yang akan datang. Demi untuk menajamkan pemikiran, akak google sikit tentang cara untuk mencapai matlamat hidup kita.

Persoalan yang paling penting ialah?

Kita kena kenal akan diri kita dahulu, kita kena tahu kekuatan dan kelemahan kita. Apakah kesukaan kita?

Cuba senaraikan apa yang kita akan buat jika kita ini tidak perlu memikirkan hak dan tangungjawab kita kepada orang lain. Contohnya jika kita tidak perlu lagi memikirkan kerja, anak, isteri, keluarga dan rakan-rakan.

Untuk diri saya, sebagai contoh, saya mempunyai impian untuk menyiapkan phD saya dalam masa 36 bulan.

Kita selalu mendengar orang berkata, matlamat mestilah jelas, barulah kita akan dapat mencapainya. Saya memang bersetuju dengan falsafah ini.
